GIRL POWER

Today is International Women’s Day!

I listened to Marie Tv this morning where her guest was Dr. Tererai Trent. I wanted to share that out today because it moved me. As women we carry huge responsibilities on our shoulders.  Whether it is being a mother, a grandmother, or the head of our household. Whether we juggle 5 jobs or 25 jobs; we shoulder the world to take care of our families.  But often in taking care of others we bury our dreams. We silence the noise that is in our minds and bury what we want to achieve in our lives. We put ourselves on hold for the betterment of others.

Its ok to put our dreams on hold but there comes a time in our lives where we desire for a change. We desire for a new beginning, we desire to change the world in our own ways.  We want more out of life.  If you desire these dreams, if you can visualize yourself in a new light; those dreams can be achievable.  It may not happen overnight.  It may take years, but never give up the hope, never give up your dreams, never give up on yourself.  You were put here on this earth for a purpose.  Your uniqueness to serve for a higher good of all.

It often takes heartache to get to that place that you desire. People do not always understand the choices you make in life, but hopefully someday they will understand and love and respect you. Your lesson, your gift, your higher purpose to pass along to your daughters, your sisters, you’re girlfriends.

Whats your dream look like? My good friend Kelly said to me once ”WRITE IT DOWN”. Get that piece of paper out and write down your dreams, visualize yourself in that special place in your heart where all your desires come true.  Then walk in those dreams and soon they will become your reality. Starting a Business

I was struggling for a long time, trying to find the right business, my passion.  What do I do?  What do I love? How can I achieve it? I have been motivated by B-School (which is kicking my ass) and I am loving every minute of it. @MarieForleo @B-School.  I received this email the other day from @selenasoo who I follow and am going to re-post it because it hit home for me and hope it will for you.  Your hopes and dreams can be attainable.   www.selenasoo.com

You Don’t Need More Experience — You Need More Courage

One of my friends recently shared with me, “I have a dream of starting my own business, but I’m not sure if I’m ready yet. Maybe I should wait. Maybe I need more experience.” She was shocked when I told her, “You don’t need more experience. You’re ready now. What you need is more courage.”

The Myth of Experience

People often think that the more experience you have, the better you’ll be at something. I’ve found that this is only sometimes true.

In all industries (let’s say marketing, for example) you can easily find people with 20 or more years of experience. But does that really matter? What if they have two decades of experience but only one year of learning?

Many people go through their careers (and lives) doing the exact same thing, in the exact same way. The people who get ahead are those who innovate and blaze new trails, not the ones who repeat old ways of doing things. The people who get ahead welcome new ideas. They listen, they adapt and they are constantly learning and challenging themselves.

Get Started Now

Whatever your dream is — get started now. Don’t wait for the perfect moment. Don’t wait for more experience before taking the next step. If you wait until you feel comfortable, then it’s already too late.

Imagine if Mark Zuckerberg said to himself, “I don’t have enough experience to build a company like Facebook. I’m still a college student! Let me wait a few years. I should get some experience at Google or Microsoft first. Maybe then I’ll have the skills to go out on my own.”

If you read the stories of entrepreneurs, such as Sir Richard Branson or Sara Blakely, who have built billion-dollar businesses, you’ll find that most of them had very little experience (or sometimes no experience) when they launched their ventures. That’s because experience is only a small part of the equation.

Yes, today we admire their knowledge and business know-how. But how did they get there? They got experience by getting started.

Courage Matters Most

Anything is possible. But you must believe in yourself before others can believe in you.

You must be willing to get in the game, to make mistakes, to learn from them and then to move on, wiser and stronger.

As Winston Churchill once said, “Success is not final. Failure is not fatal. It is the courage to continue that counts.”

Failure Is a Step Toward Success

In an interview with GigaOm, entrepreneur and startup mentor Steve Blank said, “Do you know what we call a failed entrepreneur in Silicon Valley? Experienced.”

You cannot have success without failure. The two are inextricably linked.

So if you’re afraid to act because you might make a mistake, stop and think again. Roadblocks and setbacks provide us with the information we need to grow, change and make a move in the right direction.

That’s why we should be thanking our failure.

After all, it’s through our failures that we gain experience. So move forward with courage and know that you are headed in the direction of success.

Success

Success does not come from what you do occasionally; it comes from what you do consistently.

I started an online program last week with Marie Forleo called B School. If you are not familiar with her, she has a you tube called  “Marie TV”.  She is an entrepreneur, writer, and philanthropist.  She is a very very successful woman.  Any one of us can aspire to be  her if we have the drive to do so.  The school is about this: becoming a leader in your business, your life, and most importantly, in the world. So I have started my journey through her program and thought this is a good topic to blog about.  Hope this gives you a new perspective and a push on whatever journey you are on in your life.

This is about committing to one goal.  Just one and sticking with it.  About completing a task big or small.  Whether it is less tv or starting a new exercise program or maybe you want to start up a new business.  This is about setting guidelines in your life, whether personal or business and following through with those. So today I took a look at myself and realized that my fear was in my way of executing even one plan. See I am a multi-tasker.  I have so many projects started, so many books I am reading, so so many notes in multiple journals for self help and awareness and becoming more spiritual.  Sound familiar to you? So today is day one of taking action.  Action for my life, for my well being, for my happiness.  I am already utilizing action based learning but was holding myself back from the possibilities.  So today I take action by de-clutting my office, my home, my life; a little bit at a time to bring balance and love back into alignment. Take action today for your life and watch the miracles pour in that you manifest for yourself.

Love and Light,
