Sunday Reflections

I woke up this morning feeling tired and dragging, so had my morning cup of coffee to wake myself up.  Walked my pooch and came back and decided to watch Super Soul Sunday with Oprah.  I used to watch faithfully every Sunday, always getting a sign or message from whoever she had on as her guest. So I decided to look at some of the episodes I had taped. Today her guest was Brother David Steindl-Rast, Benedictine monk, author and scholar,  who talked about the true source of lasting joy. (season 8, episode 13)  He grew up in Vienna, Austria and immigrated to the United States to become a monk. Today he is 91 years old.  There are several things he talked about; happiness, joy, gratitude and seeing them in the everyday.  He said this statement which really stuck with me.  “Trust in life, it may just surprise you”.

I think we all go through times in our lives where we question our life, our path, our goals and ambitions. What we have done and the decisions we have made in the past which sometimes keep us stuck in that past and not able to move on into today or the future.  So today give yourself credit for your past, knowing that your life has a purpose and those decisions made in the past are what brought you to today.  Honor that, see that there is always a reason for what our life is about.  Trust in your heart and soul and intuition because you are being guided by a higher power than yourself.  Thats where your path leads you when you listen.

After watching the show I decided to take a bike ride to the beach.  My little scruffy loves to ride in the basket and watch life unfold in her eyes.

I rode to the Wedge to watch the body surfers and reflected on life.  With gratitude in my heart I listened to the sounds the waves make when they crash on the shore.  I watched and felt the joy  when someone hits the perfect wave at the right time and rides it in.  Watching the way the water moves as it heightens into a wave and crashes back down changing colors as the sun reflects off of it.

Panzano/Le Bocce Winey

Day two:

My active walking culinary adventure starts in Castelvecchi along strade bianche to the ridgetop town of Panzano.  Panzano’s artisan boutiques and enoteche (wine shops) summon me in before I hit the trail to Le Bocce Winery.  The incredible selections of medieval spices at the Macelleria Cecchini (considered the best butcher shop in the region) have me dreaming of barbequing a juicy rib eye steak.
From here we walk to Fattoria Le Bocce where we tour the grounds, wine taste and enjoy a picnic lunch overlooking the vineyard.  This family owned winery is housed in a former convent surrounded by 175 acres of vineyards and olive groves.  This is a special visit as this winery is not open to the public but exclusively to Backroads guests.  If you are an outdoor active venturer in hiking, biking, swimming or just enjoy the great outdoors please visit www.Backroads.com.

After our wine tasting we continue our hike, taking in the beautiful Chianti Countryside through densely shaded oak forests and cypress trees.  The smell of the earth, the trees; the manicured olive orchards. Inhale a deep breath of mother nature and let it linger in your mind and body; a true feeling of being grounded with God’s gifts.

That evening we enjoyed a lively pizza-making demonstration with Ciro and Umberto as we summon our inner pizzaiolo (pizza chef).

Hiking options: Panzano Route: 4.7 miles; Le Bocce Route: 5.7 miles: Panzano Loop: 8 miles.

G-O-D Easter Blessings

Happy Easter!

Easter is celebrated many ways for many people.  Some gather their children on their lawns to have a traditional Easter egg hunt.  Others cram into the pews for their once a year visit to church to give thanks and pray.  Some may take a walk in nature and thank God for giving us his only son and granting that we can walk his path.

I grew up Catholic, going to mass EVERY Sunday and always wondered why so many people who were not at regular mass throughout the year would show up on this Sunday to give thanks and Praise.  When I got married and had my children, we would go to mass on Sunday and then take them to Catechism and walk to breakfast while they were there.  We had friends who we shared this with and that was our weekend gathering to talk about life and pray.  Our children were baptized when they were born, had their First Holy Communion and Confirmation just as I had done when I was a child; and two out of my three children were alter servers.

My life has changed from those days as my children have grown up and I am now single.  I stopped going to church around 4 years ago when the divorce started.  I did not stop going because of my divorce;  I stopped going because I did not feel whole when I left mass.  I was losing something in the sermons; not totally feeling I understood the reason for going now because in the eyes of the church I can no longer take communion.  So I turned to nature for my church.  I may go back to church one day but today is not the day.  I instead go to church every day.  I take a walk on the beach, or sit at a park, or maybe take a hike or a run and sit and meditate with God and Jesus.  I GO OUT DOORS G-O-D everyday and praise and thank God for his blessings. I promise to try to walk in his footsteps and pass his glory onto others. I give thanks and praise for all the abundance that I have and I humble myself to not judge others; to do unto others as you would have them do to yourself.

May God Bless You All,

Hummingbirds

pexels-photo-714022.jpeg

I walked out my door this early am to walk my sweet dog scruffy and I heard the sound of a hummingbird off to my right. That strong vibrational hum that is music to my ears.  They are so beautiful and each one unique in size and color.

Their name comes from the fact that they create a humming sound when they fly. Hummingbirds can fly in any direction — forward, backward, up, down, side-to-side and even upside down — and they do so by flapping their wings at an incredible rate of between 60-200 times per second.  So as I turned to my right in the direction of the sound, this beautiful bird floated in front of my face, stopping mid air to make eye contact with me as if to say to me “good morning” so I said well good morning back to you.  It flew away in a flash and settled into a tree above me, resting.

Legends say that hummingbirds float free of time, carrying our hopes for love, joy and celebration. The hummingbird’s delicate grace reminds us that life is rich, beauty is everywhere, every personal connection has meaning and that laughter is life’s sweetest creation.  Today celebrate your life and every connection you have made past, present and future and remember to share and laugh along the way.  Life is precious.

Feeling Good

Do you find yourself focusing on the negative instead of the positive?  Do you want to feel good and free? Do you choose to feel good?  Did you just answer yes to all three of these questions?  Well the answer to all of these is YES! Isn’t that interesting that we can feel positive and negative at the same time. What are you saying yes to?

Make feeling good your #1 priority.  Make it a daily practice of being aware of your patterns and make love a priority.  We all have abundance and joy when we choose to do so.  Make happiness your choice!

Inspiration is around us.  Open up your mind to all the possibilities that surround you.   Daily inspiration will breed more inspiration.  You will find yourself opening up and feeling more and more inspiration and it will flow to breed more inspiration.  You have the choice to feel good. Know you are not alone in this. Make a choice to live with guidance in spirit and all your dreams will manifest.
