Shade Your Yard With Sail Shades

I was looking for a different approach to shading my back patio. One that was efficient, somewhat portable and reasonably priced. So I started doing research on products and found these sail shades. They are inexpensive, create a nice visual pattern in your yard and create shade!

I used two 8 x 8 sail shades and one 10 x 10 sail shade for the middle. I used clothes line with eye hooks to attach to the pole and side of the house. The line is easy to tighten or remove using the tension screws. Works well for putting up and taking down in the backyard.

It took a bit of time to get the sails in place and aligned to create the visual effect I was looking for. I had someone help me with this and 3 people helps both visually and labor wise. You will need to adjust the sails from end to end so that they are taut and symetrical. I purchased the kit and sails from Amazon. You can go to Home Depot as well but make sure to get marine grade stainless steel to prevent rust. https://amzn.to/2Eegpff

View from under the shades. I added solar lighting and a candelabra with battered operated candles for more ambient lighting
To finish off your project add solar lighting and curtains. The tie backs add beach flare.

Everything you need to create your backyard paradise for under $450.00. Compare to a permanent pergola ($6,000.00) or retractable structure ($700+ labor).

Happy DIY!

Moms are Special

Today is a day to celebrate Mom’s all around the world. It is a tough job at times and very rewarding other times. When you first realize you are pregnant; your job begins. You wonder what your baby will look like. Will he/she have blue eyes or brown. Will they look like me or their dad. What will they be when they grow up. If you are blessed with carrying a child in your womb; you feel the first flutters of movement and your heart fills with joy. This creation from God, loved the moment it is conceived.

For other ladies that are unable to conceive but adopt; the role is still being a mom and being a mom to a precious child so they may grow up in a loving environment and nurtured with love and hopes and dreams for their children.

Mom is a hard job but very rewarding as well. Forever and ever you will have that job as a mom. You never ever stop being a mom. It is a beautiful day but also a very hard day for me. I am the mom of three beautiful children. They are currently not in my life but one day they will be again, that I trust in God.

Happy Mothers Day. Share a smile and cheers to all.

GIRL POWER

Today is International Women’s Day!

I listened to Marie Tv this morning where her guest was Dr. Tererai Trent. I wanted to share that out today because it moved me. As women we carry huge responsibilities on our shoulders.  Whether it is being a mother, a grandmother, or the head of our household. Whether we juggle 5 jobs or 25 jobs; we shoulder the world to take care of our families.  But often in taking care of others we bury our dreams. We silence the noise that is in our minds and bury what we want to achieve in our lives. We put ourselves on hold for the betterment of others.

Its ok to put our dreams on hold but there comes a time in our lives where we desire for a change. We desire for a new beginning, we desire to change the world in our own ways.  We want more out of life.  If you desire these dreams, if you can visualize yourself in a new light; those dreams can be achievable.  It may not happen overnight.  It may take years, but never give up the hope, never give up your dreams, never give up on yourself.  You were put here on this earth for a purpose.  Your uniqueness to serve for a higher good of all.

It often takes heartache to get to that place that you desire. People do not always understand the choices you make in life, but hopefully someday they will understand and love and respect you. Your lesson, your gift, your higher purpose to pass along to your daughters, your sisters, you’re girlfriends.

Whats your dream look like? My good friend Kelly said to me once ”WRITE IT DOWN”. Get that piece of paper out and write down your dreams, visualize yourself in that special place in your heart where all your desires come true.  Then walk in those dreams and soon they will become your reality. Easy to Install Wine Glass Rack

This happened toward the end of my house remodel but I am so proud of having accomplished this that I decided to post it and then go back to the start of the remodel with tips and tricks.

I wanted to add a little dimension into my kitchen as well as utilize all the space in my small galley kitchen. Living in a small cottage, you really need to make every inch of space count. So in my research I found these:

The kit:

SMITCO Wine Glass Holder – Under Cabinet Hanging Storage Rack – Unfinished Wood Stemware Racks to Organize 12 Glasses (Double) – 11 Inches Deep x 20 Inches Wide – Made in The USA

The kit comes unfinished you so can paint it the color you like or just stain it to match your cabinets. I chose a gray finish to accent my mosaic backsplash.

Painted pieces before install
The 3/8″ block is perfect to measure in between each piece
Installed under cabinet

This was very easy to install using the block as a spacer and screwing into the cabinet. The only thing I did not use was the fillers for the screws, they looked bulky so I used some putty to fill the holes and painted over them.

Finished and wine glasses on.

Five Tips to Stick to Your New Years Resolutions

Its a New Year. Many of us start off with resolutions and fail to follow through with them. Here are my suggestions to being successful with your resolutions.

1. Make a list of everything you wish to accomplish in the New year. Then go through that list and pick your top five resolutions that you really want to achieve.

2. Post those resolutions in a few spots in your home so you see them in the morning, afternoon and evening. These reminders help to keep those resolutions in your mind. When you can imagine it, it will become a reality for you to see and feel.

3. See yourself already achieving those resolutions. Feel how good it is to have accomplished those.

4. Make a list of how to treat yourself for achieving those goals. Its the carrot to help motivate you. Treat yourself when you reach your goals. This can be as simple as a walk in the park. An hour away out of your day enjoying a cup of coffee. Something you never give yourself time to do but because your moving forward give yourself that pat on the back, you did it!!!

5. Make a certificate for yourself so when those goals are met you can give yourself the high five. Post it on social media to share with friends and family. It feels so good so share it. You deserve the cheers and well wishes.

Whatever your goals are this year, you can achieve anything you set your mind too. We have the power as humans we just have to believe. Trust in yourself.

May all your goals be achieved and remember to always stop and smell the roses. Life is a precious thing.
